There are few things in life than a beautiful exotic beach. Palm trees, a gentle breeze, a margarita and a deep, Mediterranean sunset. The problem? You’ve got too many bills to pay, the kids will get bored and there’s no way you can get two weeks off work any time soon if you’ve even got a chance of that new promotion.
Luckily, there is a compromise. One of the great things about living in a country that you can drive across in just about a single day is that people from the UK are free to go just about anywhere they want for the weekend. Providing they don’t leave the country, that is. If you’re used to exotic climates, taking a weekend break in the UK might sound a little bit like spending your day off at Tesco but there are actually some beautiful beaches right across England, Scotland and Wales that can rival anywhere in Spain – providing the weather is good, and of course holiday hotels in the UK are always a bonus.
If you’re looking for the place that has the highest combination of good weather and great beaches the south of the country is where it’s at – the south west in particular. Cornwall has some stunning beaches all along its coast and many of them are very secluded even in the height of summer simply because they aren’t often advertised. Beaches like those found at Whitsand bay offer amazing views and virtually deserted sandy beaches – perfect for a quick family break.
If you’re looking for a slightly more exciting weekend, there’s always the old favourite of Blackpool pleasure beach. The area has recently had a great deal of cash pumped into it to make it more modern and fun, especially for families with young children who want an easy break that will entertain the kids, and with plenty of holiday hotels there'll always be a space somewhere for you.
Oddly enough Devon also has a beach named Blackpool Sands. It’s privately owned and while the majority is more pebbles than sand, a manmade sandy area has been brought in to appease holiday makers. This is a well known destination, so expect the crowds to hit hard and fast whenever the sun is due to come out.
